Band recordings in a venue :

Every mobile recording session needs a slightly different approach, in part this is determined by budget.

The methods are as follows:

1)Stereo bus desk FOH recording and audience mics where practical.

2)Multitrack direct channel outputs from FOH console and audience mics where practical (mix later)

3)Split microphones / preamplify and multitrack record
with audience mics where practical (mix later)

Maximum track count with full multitrack back up = 24 tracks

Maximum track count no back up 48 Tracks with offer of free recording in the event of technical hitches, subject to agreement.

Option 1 is the most cost effective and 3 is the most expensive.

Option 1: relies on the sound balance the PA engineer makes
for the PA system in the venue, it might not sound quite as you would wish but is a very cost effective option.

Option 2: a good compromise and allows flexibility in the mixing stage though some dynamic processing from the FOH console can affect the recorded sound. The recording quality can still be influenced by the FOH console engineer using this approach. With diplomatic communication with the FOH engineer a great recording can be achieved.

Option 3: is the best solution as the recording is controllable during record and mix stages, it is also the most technically complex and a little more costly.

The equipment is not housed in a vehicle and this makes the pricing very cost effective, it is usual to be stageside, near FOH or in an allocated space in the venue.
